Best practises to create best-selling gifts
Gift Experience Name
The name of your gift voucher needs to be accurate, outlining in just a few words what experience you’re selling, but it also needs to catch your audience’s attention and draw them in, reflecting the gift appeal.
Think of adding an enticing word to do this or to create a feeling or a bit of intrigue from the start, such as:
- ‘Decadent Afternoon Tea for Two’ instead of ‘Afternoon Tea for Two’
- ‘Winter One Night Escape’ instead of ‘One night bed and breakfast’
Please note, the voucher name is printed on the actual voucher, and we recommend not adding any copy that the recipient is best not to see, such as anything that would suggest that this is a discounted item.
Gift Experience Descriptions
Use your words to paint a picture of the gift experience, engaging your buyers’ senses, conveying what you’re actually selling. It’s not just about the food, a treatment or a round of golf. It’s about the whole experience that you have to offer. Focus on what your audience needs to hear and what they think is important.
Ask yourself, what’s important to your intended reader? Research the demographic you’re targeting well, looking at life through their eyes. Here are some examples of questions to ask:
- What makes my target audience really happy?
- What are they saying in their heads?
- What is their biggest problem?
- If a dream solution could appear, how would it look?
- What are you offering that’s worth their time and money?
- What are you offering that’s different to other venues?
The marketing description talks to the buyer
The marketing description should inspire your reader to click ‘more details’ and of course buy.
This copy appears on both the voucher listing card and on the ‘more details’ page.
Use words that mimic your brand ensuring that you really sell your venue/experience to your buyer.
This copy does not get printed on the voucher, so this is where you can mention any special offer or discount.
The full description talks to the recipient
The recipient of the gift needs to know what is included in their gift (so they know what to expect.)
We recommend adding copy that makes the recipient feel like they have really been thought about, in addition to what’s included in the experience.
This copy is printed on the voucher.
Word count: Maximum of of 300 characters (approx. 50 words).
Gift Experience Price
Sell experiences you already offer at their full price.
We recommend having a range of expereinces with different prices points to be suitable to different occasions and budgets. For example, buyers spend more on a Valentine’s Day gift than on a Father’s Day gift.
Create luxury packages with higher price tag that really showcase your venue, lower price packages alongside these will seem like great value of money.
Gift Experience Images
Images are king! The better your experiences look, the more likely they are to sell. In addition to this, images with descriptive names will be more likely to be found by search engines. You can add up to 4 images per gift voucher, including a photo of your stationery, so be sure to sell the whole story when you think about adding images.
Make a start preparing your images: 1000px by 562px (Aspect Ratio 16:9)
The image name should:
- Describe the contents of the image in 3-8 words
- Include the name of your venue and a keyword that makes sense
- Separate the words in the filename with a hyphen and not an underscore
- No need to include words like: a, the, it, to, etc. – keep it short & simple
Gift Experience Validity
A usual gift voucher validity period is 12 months to give the gift recipient plenty of time to book & enjoy their gift, however, you are able to set a validity period of a day if needed (for example, for a ticketed event, such as a wine tasting) or for longer if required, such as for 24 months.
Gift Experience Terms & Conditions
We have standard voucher terms & conditions that will be pre-set in your gift shop; you are welcome to amend these depending on your venue’s particular T&C’s.
The same T&Cs will, by default, be set for all your vouchers. They can be edited at a venue level, a catalogue level or they can be different for each voucher.
